Five SBCC student-athletes were selected as College Athletes of the Year by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table. The athletes were the best in their sport for the Santa Barbara area, which includes SBCC, UCSB and Westmont.

They were honored on Wednesday night during the SBART Evening with the Athletes at the new Vic Theater.

The winners were Cedric Cooper (football), Carolin Chang (women's golf), Halie Johnson (women's water polo), John Jensen (baseball) and Gina Jacobson (women's diving).

Chang won her second straight CCCAA State title and led the Vaqueros (99-1) to a runner-up finish in the State. Jacobson was also a State champion and set a State record in 1-meter diving. Jensen, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, led the WSC North in batting (.380) and was named Player of the Year.

Cooper was the leading rusher (781 yards, 11 TDs) and offensive MVP on a 7-4 football team that hosted its first bowl game in 33 years. Johnson scored 87 goals with 70 steals and 41 assists, guiding the water polo squad to a 33-2 record, a Southern Cal title and a State runner-up finish.
