2017-18 was quite a year for SBCC Athletics

Women's Water Polo went 31-3 and topped Sierra 8-6 to win its first state championship and 11th in school history. Emma Fraser was the MVP of the state tourney at Cuesta College.

Vaquero Achievements, All-WSC and All-State players

-- The SBCC Vaqueros won six Western State Conference titles in 2017-18 (Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Women's Volleyball, Women's Water Polo, Women's Golf, Women's Swimming & Diving) and finished 1st (W-Water Polo), 2nd (W-Soccer) and 3rd in the state (W-Golf).

-- Three fall sports reached the State Final Four:
    W-Water Polo went 31-3 and won the State title, beating Sierra 8-6
    W-Soccer went 21-1-1 and reached State Final Four for second straight year, falling to Fresno 2-1 in state title game. 2nd in the state.
    W-Golf went 90-3 and finished 3rd in the state
    M-Soccer was 17-1-4 and finished 5th in state, suffering its only loss (1-0) to Mt. SAC in So Cal Regional final
    W-Swim & Dive went 37-2 and won 4th straight WSC title (25-0). They finished 7th in the state.

-- The combined record of the 5 teams that placed in Top 7 in state: 196-10-5 (.941 win %)
       
-- Football went 4-6 and nine players made the All-American Pacific League team. RB Manny Nwosu, DB Russell Enholm and DE Chayvis Curry were All-State.

-- We had 87 student-athletes named to All-WSC teams. 10 were named All-State and 10 more made All-American.

-- We had 5 WSC Players of the Year – Victor Chavez (Men's Soccer), Katherine Sheehy (Women's Soccer), Emma Fraser (Women's Water Polo), Kaylene Ureno (Women's VB), Kelee Shimizu (Women's Swim & Dive). Fraser was also the MVP of the State Tournament.

-- We had 3 WSC Coaches of the Year – John Sisterson (Men's and Women's Soccer), Chuck Melendez (Women's Golf).

-- 2 teams from 2017-18 school year were named CCCAA Academic All-State:
         Women's Golf (3.42 GPA)
         Men's Cross Country (3.33 GPA)

-- 5 Vaqueros were selected as College Players of the Year in their sport for the Santa Barbara area by the SB Athletic Round Table: Emma Fraser (W-Water Polo), Manny Nwosu (Football), Katherine Sheehy (W-Soccer), Victor Chavez (M-Soccer), Vanessa Watkins (W-Golf).

-- John Sisterson won the College Coach of the Year award from the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table for all local colleges and all sports.

      Male Athlete of the Year – Kyle Skinner (Men's VB, going to Ohio State)
      Female Athlete of the Year – Kat Sheehy (Women's Soccer, going to UCSB)
      Scholar-Athlete of the Year – Alyssa Russell-Sadoff (W-Water Polo, W-Swim & Dive)
      Louis Lowry Davis Inspirational Leadership Award (presented by SB Athletic Round Table) – Hannah Rogers (Women's Basketball)
