SBCC suffered a pair of 5-0 beach volleyball setbacks on Friday to Moorpark and Santa Monica at East Beach.
"Illness has weakened our team a bit this week and we were down to four teams today," said Vaquero coach Samantha Calisto. "Although we were able to get within a few points of winning in many of the games, we were never able to get over that hump. Our errors in critical moments have to disappear if we hope to win more matches this season.
"With a small roster in a sport where every player matters, these girls have a lot of work to put in to be consistent enough to win."
Calisto shook up the lineup on Friday, moving Jacque Ortegon to the No. 1 team with McKenzie Garrison. They lost to Moorpark's Kiahna Franco and Alexis Wolf 21-9, 21-19. Grace Trocki/Emma Esparza also fell short against the Raiders' No. 2 team, 21-17, 21-9.
The Vaqueros return to WSC play next Friday with matches against Ventura and Bakersfield at Cal State Bakersfield.
