SANTA BARBARA, CA - The Santa Barbara City College Women's Beach Volleyball team (10-2, 4-0) cruised in 2 sweeps on Friday over Cuesta and Glendale.
In the early match, all 5 Vaquero teams defeated their Cuesta opponents. Glendale's short roster meant they only had 2 teams competing, but SBCC won both nonetheless to officially make it a perfect 10-0 day.
To no surprise, Olivia Medina and Ashley Rossi continue to dominate, beating Cuesta 21-9, 21-4 and Glendale 21-11, 21-11. The 1s duo boasts a perfect 12-0 start to the season.
Alexis Zevenbergen and Nevaeh Tillet, in the 2s spot, naturally won both of their matches 21-11, 21-10 and 21-6, 21-11, respectively.
Carolina Koceman and Charlotte Wilson played only against Cuesta as the 3s pair, winning another 2-setter 21-7, 21-9.
Celia Espinoza and Carly Hanna continue to show how great their chemistry is, now winners of their last 6 matches after beating the Cuesta 4s 21-17, 21-9.
Vanessa Cabeza and Jillian Zimmerman had the 5s matchup, crediting both energy and perspective in their 21-12, 21-8 win.
"Jill and I went into our games like we had fire coming out of our mouths," Cabeza said passionately.
"We just love coming out here and playing on the beach because not everyone gets to; so when we're home, we try to have fun and take advantage of the opportunity," Zimmerman said reflectively.
The Vaqueros have a tough test next Friday, taking their undefeated conference record to Ventura against Bakersfield—who SBCC beat in a close 3-2 match last weekend—and reigning WSC champion Ventura.
