Jonathan Larson hit a solo homer in the eighth inning on Saturday and East L.A. went on to edge SBCC 2-1 in Monterey Park. It was the first baseball loss of the year for the Vaqueros (10-1) and ended the best start in school history.

Santa Barbara entered as the state leader in runs (96), RBIs (81) and walks (64). The Vaqueros were third in stolen bases (30) and fourth in batting average (.320). They had scored seven or more runs in every game.

East L.A.'s Jose Amezquita pitched a no-hitter for seven innings. The Huskies  (7-4) took a 1-0 lead in the third and the Vaqueros tied it in the eighth when Matt Henderson walked, went to second on Ryan Crowe's sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by Spencer Erdman.

The Vaqueros, who beat East L.A. 11-6 on Thursday at home, had just one hit in the nonconference game. SBCC starter Ryan Massengale went five innings, allowing one run on five hits.

SBCC will play El Camino in the next two games -- Tuesday in Torrance and Thursday at home. Both games start at 2 p.m.
