Vaqueros drop WSC debut at Moorpark, 6-4

Moorpark jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on Saturday, then held off SBCC 6-4 in a WSC North baseball opener at Moorpark.

The Raiders (3-6, 1-0) scored two in the first inning and two more in the second on solo homers by Terrell Tate and Jesse Aucelluzzo. The defending WSC champion Vaqueros (3-6, 0-1) had their three-game win streak snapped.

SBCC tallied three in the fourth frame on a two-run single by Nicolas Bereaud and an RBI single by Nicholas Allman. The Vaqueros tied it at 4 on Connor Clark's sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Raiders went back on top 6-4 with a pair of unearned runs in the sixth.

"It was a disappointing way to start conference," said fifth-year coach Jeff Walker, whose teams have finished fifth in the state the last two years. "We dug ourselves a hole early but then we bounced back.

"We just couldn't get the timely hit late or get the momentum back."

The same teams will clash on Tuesday at Pershing Park, starting at 2 p.m.
