10 Vaqueros make All-WSC North team

Ten SBCC players have been named to the All-WSC North baseball team.

Nicholas Allman, Nicolas Bereaud, Jake Gagain and Steven Ledesma were first-team selections. Allman, a freshman outfielder from  San Ramon, Calif., was the seventh-leading hitter in WSC play with a .360 average. Bereaud, a sophomore designated hitter from La Jolla, hit .317 and was third in conference homers (4) and RBIs (21).

SBCC finished second in the WSC North with a 16-8 record.

Gagain, a sophomore from Lithia, Fla., was a utility player on the first team. He hit .258 with 11 RBIs and was the No. 2 defensive first baseman in conference with a fielding percentage of .992 (2 errors in 251 chances). Ledesma, a sophomore from Ventura, was No. 3 among WSC North pitchers with a 7-2 record, a 1.69 ERA and a conference-best 74 strikeouts.

Third baseman Chris Smutny, who hit .303 in conference with 18 RBIs, was a second-team All-WSC choice, along with pitcher Ian Clark and Andrew Cosgrove. Cosgrove won the Gold Glove at catcher with a .969 fielding percentage.

Honorable mention went to shortstop Wesley Ghan-Gibson, pitcher Davis Messer and relief pitcher Austin Blessing.

The Vaqueros (19-17) were seeded No. 15 for the Southern Cal Regional and will host No. 18 Riverside (21-15) on Tuesday in a 2 p.m. wild-card game at Pershing Park.
