Santa Barbara City College baseball gained a measure of revenge against Allan Hancock College with a 9-4 win at Pershing Park on Thursday.
The Vaqueros (10-9, 1-1 WSC North) scored five runs in the first two innings and they never looked back from there.
Reinhard Lautz got the Vaqqueros started in the first with a one-out double. John Jensen delivered him home with an RBI single and Jake Holton scored Jensen on a double. Holton eventually came around to score on an error by the catcher as SBCC built a 3-0 lead in the first.
Lautz again was the catalyst for SBCC in the second as he drove home Zack Stockton with a triple and stole home later in the inning.
In the fourth inning Lautz hit a single which drove in Shane Hersh and Nicholas Prainito which made the score 7-1. Lautz later scored on wild pitch and made the score 8-1. Mitch Sancier would drive in the final run for the Vaqueros later in the inning.
Jayden Metz got the start for the Vaqueros and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs in the process. Steven Elliott came on and pitched 1.1 innings in relief to pick up the win.
The Vaqueros also capitalized off three errors from Hancock (10-9, 1-1 WSC North).
The Bulldogs would add three runs but couldn't get much going against the back end of the Vaquero bullpen. After committing three errors in the previous game against Hancock, SBCC's defense played flawlessly, committing no errors and turning three doubple plays in the final three innings.
Yeager George turned in perhaps the best outing on the mound for the Vaqueros on the day, hurling 2.1 innings of scorless relief, allowing just one hit in the process. Holton closed out the game with a scorless ninth.
Lautz had a phenomenal all around game, going 3-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. He hit a double and triple and added two stolen bases. Lautz is now a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen bases on the season. Jensen and Shane Hersh also had multi-hit games for SBCC.
The Vaqueros were active on the bases as they stole 10 bases in the game without being caught.
The Vaqueros next game is Friday, March 9 at Cuesta College.
