Vaqueros use 18-hit attack to take down Cuesta, 14-11

In a game that saw 25 combined runs and 31 total hits, SBCC outlasted host Cuesta College as the Vaqueros took down the Cougars, 14-11.

The Vaqueros (11-9, 2-1 WSC North) also took advantage of seven Cuesta erorrs.

SBCC scored a run in the first on an error and then plated three in the top of the third with key RBI hits coming from Jensen and Patrick Caulfield.

After Cuesta (10-8, 1-2 WSC North) answered with two runs to make the score 4-2, SBCC pushed across four in the top of the fifth.

Boston Hubbard drove home a run with a ground out and Zack Stockton, Nick Prainito and Lautz had run-scoring hits.

Cuesta pulled to within 8-7, but SBCC again had the answers on offense, scoring four in the seventh and two more key insurance runs in the top of the ninth on a Jensen double and a Jake Holton single.

Santa Barbara's offense was on fire as the recorded 18 hits and scored 14 runs. The offense was led by Reinhard Lautz who went 4-5 with a double and four runs scored.  Lautz has seven hits in his last 10 at bats, with three of those hits going for extra bases.

John Jenson went 3-5 with a HR with three runs scored and four RBI.

Shane Hersh, Caulfield, Holton, Mitch Sancier and Prainito all had multi-hit games as well.

Ian Churchill got the start on the mound for the Vaqueros and pitched five innings and recorded four strikeouts.  He allowed four earned runs on six hits and four walks and picked up his first win on the season.

The Vaqueros next game is Tuesday the 13th at Pershing Park against Cuesta College at 2:30.
