Cashman quiets SBCC's bats, Moorpark tops SBCC 6-1

Throughout the early part of the spring, Santa Barbara City College has flashed a powerful offense that could generate runs in a number of different ways.  For one day, the offense was quieted by Moorpark's John Cashman, who scattered nine hits in a complete game effort as Moorpark beat SBCC, 6-1.  It was the first time since February 3 that the Vaqueros failed to score more than one run in a game.

SBCC now stands at 13-11 on the year and 4-3 in the WSC Norrth.

Moorpark (15-8, 5-2 WSC North) jumped out to an early lead when they touched SBCC starter Ryan Ward for three runs in the first inning.

Making his first start of the season, Ward (1-2) struck out two of the first three hitters he faced, but ran into control problems after that.  He walked four straight batters, two with the bases loaded, as Moorpark built a 2-0 lead.

Moorpark tacked on one more run when Micheal Teobaldi singled with the bases loaded off of Kyle Basch, who came on in relief of Ward.

The Raiders added single runs in the third, seventh and eighth while SBCC's offense stayed quiet all game.

The Vaqueros scored their only run in the top of the sixth when Joshua Perlmutter singled home Reinhard Lautz with two outs in the inning.

Santa Barbara outhit Moorpark 9-6 on the afternoon, but the Raiders were helped by seven walks.  SBCC was also victimized by having four runners caught stealing by Teobaldi.

Nicholas Prainito went 2-2 with a walk and a triple for SBCC while Paul Abate had half of Moorpark's hits, going 3-3 with a run and an RBI.

Joe Kinsky was the only one of five SBCC pitchers to keep Moorpark off the scoreboard, as he allowed just one hit and no runs over two innings of relief.

The Vaqueros are scheduled to host Moorpark at home Thursdsay at 2:30, but that game is in jeopardy due to rain.
