Eight Vaqueros selected on All-WSC North team

SBCC landed eight players on the All-WSC North baseball team, including five first-teamers.

Second baseman Nicholas Prainito, a freshman from Atherton, led the way, earning first-team honors at second base. He was second in the WSC North with a .426 average in 20 games. He was joined on the first team by catcher Mitch Sancier, utility player Jake Holton, third baseman John Jensen and pitcher Brett Vansant.

      2018 All-WSC Team

Sancier was No. 5 in WSC batting (.390, 3 HR), Holton was No. 10 (.360, 3 HR, 17 RBI) and Jensen was 11th (.350, 2 HR, 18 RBI). Vansant went 1-2 and had the fourth-best ERA in the conference at 3.03. He struck out 33 and walked just four. Holton played first base and was the Vaqueros' closer, setting a school record with 11 saves and tying the school mark for conference saves with six.

Outfielder Patrick Caulfield was honorable mention along with pitchers William Blackburn and Steven Elliott.

The Vaqueros (20-20) are making their eighth straight trip to the playoffs. They were seeded 13th for the Southern Cal Regional and will play a best-of-3 series at No. 4 Mt. San Antonio (29-11) in Walnut. Game 1 is Friday at 2 p.m. and Game 2 is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. Game 3 would follow, if necessary.
