Vaqueros seeded 13th for Regional, will play at Glendale

SBCC was seeded 13th in the Southern Cal Regional baseball playoffs on Sunday and will hit the road for a best-of-3 series at No. 4 Glendale.

The "Battle of the Vaqueros" will open on Friday, May 3 at Casey Stengel Field at 2:30 p.m. Game 2 will be played on Saturday at 12 p.m. (with SBCC designated as the home team) and Game 3 will follow, if necessary.

Santa Barbara (23-13) won its last eight conference games to claim a share of its fifth WSC North title in the last nine years. Glendale captured the WSC East with records of 26-14 overall and 15-5 in conference.

The Glendale Vaqueros are first in the state in home runs (56), second in runs (408, 10.2 average) and third in batting average (.326). Outfielder and leadoff hitter Trent MacKinney leads the state in batting average at .422 and has nine homers. Casey Slattery is hitting .355 with 11 home runs.

The SBCC Vaqueros are 14th in the state in ERA (3.40). Left-hander Ian Churchill is fifth in the state in ERA (1.39) and strikeouts (95). Conner Roberts is eighth in strikeouts (92) and has a 2.04 ERA.

SBCC went 10-2 in April with a .319 batting average.

Ventura, the WSC North co-champion, was seeded fifth and will host No. 12 Long Beach. Third-place Cuesta is the 14th seed and will play at No. 3 Riverside.
