LOS ANGELES – The SBCC baseball team (5-0) continued one of its best starts in program history with its best offensive performance yet, setting numerous season-highs in an 18-6 win at LA Pierce (0-5) on Tuesday.

New season-bests set by the Vaqueros included their 18 runs, 13 walks and 11 stolen bases as they won their fifth straight game to start the year while putting up double-digit hits and at least 12 runs.

First baseman Presley Kosciusko and left fielder Patrick Walsh had big days, both scoring three runs. Kosciusko also added two hits and three walks while Walsh had two RBI and a pair of walks.

Third baseman Daniel Ghiorso finished with a team-high three RBI. He was one of seven Vaqueros with multiple RBI.

Over the first six innings, SBCC's offense was relatively quiet. Second baseman Daniel Hirose played a part in the Vaqueros' first two runs, scoring in the third and picking up an RBI single to score Ghiorso in the fifth. Ghiorso then got his own RBI in the sixth to make it 3-1.

Momentum actually swung LA Pierce's way with a big five-run bottom of the sixth to take a 6-3 lead, but SBCC went off from there, answering with its own five runs in the top of the seventh.

The Vaqueros scored five times on only two hits, thanks to three walks and a two-run double by outfielder Shane Lamas. SBCC also capitalized by scoring two more runs on a Pierce error with two outs on the board.

Things got even worse for the Brahmas in the eighth, as they walked eight batters on the way to giving up 10 runs. Three different Vaqueros registered RBI walks. Walsh hit two-run double and Carson Cahoy capped things off with a two-run single.

Five Vaquero pitchers saw action, with Jake Villar going five innings and giving up just one earned run.
