Jacob Ortale has been selected as SBCC's male Athlete of the Year for the 2015-16 school year.
Ortale was a 6-4, 240-pound tight end on the 2015 football team. The freshman from Las Vegas was named first-team All-American Pacific League and All-State.
"Jacob is the perfect complement of athleticism and physicality that most programs look for," said Vaquero coach Craig Moropoulos. "He has outstanding hands and is a very disciplined player.
"He's an outstanding student because of his discipline and the priority that he places on his academic work."
Ortale has a 3.42 GPA.
Here are some of the comments about Ortale from "The Outstanding Student Awards Reception" program: "Jacob led by example and was one of the hardest workers on the team. He always performed beyond expectations and was a 'difference maker' on and off the field."
Moropoulos says Ortale has received lots of interest from schools like LSU, Fresno State and Louisville but will probably return for his sophomore year with the Vaqueros.
