Holle named SBART Athlete of the Week

Noah Holle was selected as Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table.

The 6-4 sophomore quarterback from Bakersfield High received the award during Monday's weekly press luncheon at Harry's Plaza Café. The SBART selects the top male and female Athletes of the Week from all the high schools and colleges in the Santa Barbara area.

Holle completed 22-of-41 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns in a stirring 43-40 comeback football win on a rainy Saturday at Hancock. The Vaqueros (5-1, 1-0) trailed 40-21 with six minutes to go in the third quarter, then Holle directed TD drives of 65, 56 and 80 yards.

The game-winning TD march started on the Vaqueros' 20-yard line with 1:52 to play and they had no timeouts. Holle was 5-9 for 79 yards on the drive, which included two fourth-down conversions. The second one was a 40-yard bomb to Jonathan Licea at the 1-yard line with 38 seconds to go.

Holle, a transfer from Bakersfield College, accounted for 79 of the 80 yards on the game-winning drive, completing 5-of-9 passes.

The Vaqueros, ranked 24th in this week's state poll, are third on the state scoring chart with a 44.5 average. They'll be shooting for their sixth straight win on Saturday when they travel to Antelope Valley (4-2, 1-0) for an American Pacific League game at 7 p.m.
