Seven SBCC football players have been selected to the All-American Pacific League team.
Two freshmen made first-team offense – receiver Nick Foster and lineman Sage Sobrado – and three landed on first-team defense – sophomore inside linebacker Chase Elliott, freshman lineman Matthew Molina and sophomore punter Martin Ahlstroem.
2018 All-APL Team
Foster led the APL in receiving with 31 catches for 462 yards (14.9 avg.) and four touchdowns in five games. Sobrado is a 6-2, 280-pound offensive lineman from Fresno.
Elliott was third on the team in tackles (63) and sixth in APL games with 38 tackles plus two interceptions. Molina, a 6-3, 225-pound defensive lineman from Dos Pueblos High, was ninth in APL tackles with 32. He also had two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Ahlstroem, a sophomore from Molndal, Sweden, continues a strong tradition of outstanding Vaquero punters. He led the conference with a 35.5-yard average and had a long of 60 yards with six punts inside the 20.
Three former Vaquero punters from Australia are currenly kicking for NCAA FBS teams – Mitch Wishnowsky at Utah, Joel Whitford at Washington and Trent Schneider, the punter and kicker at South Florida.
Center Jake Tourtillotte, a 6-3, 310-pound sophomore from Cabrillo High, made the All-APL team for the second straight year. He was a second-teamer, along with inside linebacker Andreas Buri, a sophomore from Bern, Switzerland. Buri led the Vaqueros with 68 tackles and was third in APL action with 46.
