Nick Foster has been selected as SBCC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the wide receiver on the football team received his award from the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table during Monday's press luncheon at Harry's Plaza Café.

Foster, a 6-foot freshman from Orinda, Calif., has a 3.78 GPA and he came on late in the 2018 football season to be a unanimous pick on the first-team All-American Pacific League team. He was also All-State Region 4, Academic All-Conference and Academic All-State.

After making just seven catches in the first six games, Foster recorded six, eight, five and 10 receptions in the last four games. He was second in the APL with 36 catches for 497 yards (13.8 avg.) and four touchdowns.

Foster caught 10 passes for 191 yards and a 43-yard TD in his last game vs. Pasadena City. It was the fourth-best single-game yardage total in SBCC history.

Foster was a three-sport star at Miramonte High in Orinda (football, basketball, baseball) and his baseball team went 26-1 in his senior year, losing 4-3 in the CIF Northern California Section championship game. He redshirted at SBCC in 2017 and has been on the SBCC President's Honor Roll every semester.

"Nick developed into one of the most reliable receivers that we have had at SBCC in my tenure," said 12th-year head coach Craig Moropoulos. "He was a unanimous all-conference pick and one of the first selected to the All-California Region 4 teams. Character, toughness and the desire to catch the ball over the middle and in 'tight windows' epitomized his season."
