David Shelton

David Shelton

David Shelton is in his fourth year with the Vaqueros and ninth overall. He was born in Los Angeles and raised in San Francisco where he attended Oceana High in Pacifica. He played football at City College of San Francisco (1985-87) for Hall of Fame coach George Rush.

Shelton received a scholarship to Fresno State University (1987-90) and lettered two years at strong safety, playing for the late legendary coach Jim Sweeney. He graduated from Fresno State with a BS in Criminology. After graduation, he played professional football in the Canadian Football League (1990-94) for the Edmonton Eskimos and was part of two Grey Cup teams.

After his playing career, he became a co-owner of a successful mortgage firm in the Bay Area. He's married to Lisa Choy Shelton and they've raised two sons (David Shelton Jr., Dominique Shelton).

David started his coaching career with the semi-pro team Pacifica Outlaws as the secondary coach for three years under head coach Bill Gray. Then he spent two years as the secondary coach at Justin Siena High in Napa, CA, where they were NCS champions and had the top secondary in the league twp years in a row.
