Coach Deras is in his sixth year at SBCC in 2021. He played and coached at Bishop Diego, where his father and uncle are charter members of the Hall of Fame. He attended Chico State before returning to Santa Barbara and played on the 1982 SBCC Mission Bowl championship team.

He has been involved with coaching football since former Bishop Diego High coach Norris Fletcher recruited him off the field after a series of exhibition football games versus the Russian National team, Oxnard Sheriff/Fire and Carp/Bishop II.

Since 1992, he has coached at several levels of football, as well as run a Sand and Land Development program on East Beach with former SBHS and SBCC star Torlando Bolden. He has garnered several awards over the years. He has fond memories of his playing days at SBCC and of his Uncle Mike Mendoza's playing days as well.

Coach Deras has three children, Alexandria (Joey), Cassandra (Angel in Heaven) and Andrew (Hillarie). He is also blessed with two grandchildren, Hayden and Wyatt, and one great nephew, Zachary (Daniel).
