Williams sparks 70-62 win at Long Beach

Freshman guard Tejon Williams scored 16 points with five rebounds on Wednesday night as SBCC completed nonconference play with a 70-62 men's basketball win at Long Beach City.

Robert Hutchins scored all 17 of his points in the second half, making 6-of-7 shots and 3-6 from 3-point range for the Vaqueros, who snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 5-9. He's scored 10 or more in 10 straight games and made at least three 3-pointers in seven straight.

Evan Tillman had 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Vaqueros, who led 31-30 at intermission. Jeremiah Blandin led all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings (7-6).

SBCC outshot LBCC 43.1 to 36.4 percent and hit 18-22 from the free-throw line compared to 16-29 for the home team. The Vaqueros nailed 15-17 from the charity stripe in the second half. The Vikings made just 12-21 free throws and 2-13 from 3-point land in the final 20 minutes.

The Vaqueros will open WSC North play on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at Hancock with tip-off at 7 p.m. Their first conference home game will be Jan. 13 vs. Cuesta.
