Ventura goes 3-crazy in 109-63 win

Ventura converted 16-of-28 from 3-point range on Wednesday night in a 109-63 men's basketball victory over SBCC. The Pirates closed the first half on a 36-14 run to build a 58-28 advantage at intermission.

Ventura (18-9, 8-3 WSC North) shot 61 percent for the game (39-64) and 57.1 percent from downtown. Timmy Garcia hit 8-12 from 3-point country and led the Pirates with 26 points.

The Vaqueros (7-18, 2-9) were down 22-14 with 10 minutes left in the opening half and then the Pirates went on their run to take a 30-point halftime lead.

Ventura shot 66.7 percent in the first half and tossed in 11-of-16 from 3-point range while the Vaqueros hit 45.8 percent and made 3-7. SBCC hit 44.4 percent for the game, including 6-18 on 3-pointers.

Cody Williams topped the Vaqueros with season highs in points (15) and rebounds (8). Robert Hutchins also scored 15, making 3-6 from the 3-point line. Evan Tillman added 14 points and leading scorer Tejon Williams was held to seven points in 14 minutes.

The Pirates stretched the lead to 42 points (91-49) with 7:52 to play.

Ventura, Moorpark and Cuesta are tied for first at 8-3 with one game remaining in the WSC North season. Moorpark travels to Cuesta on Saturday and Ventura finishes at Oxnard.

The Vaqueros will host L.A. Pierce in their season finale on Saturday with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
