Robert Hutchins has been named Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table for the week of Nov. 14-20. The award is given to the top male athlete in all sports in the Santa Barbara area, which includes UCSB, Westmont, SBCC and all the local high schools.
The 6-foot sophomore guard from Bismarck, N.D., averaged 23.3 points and 5.0 rebounds in three games, leading the Vaquero men's basketball team to second place in the Hancock Home Motors Tournament.
Hutchins scored 24 in an 84-82 win over Chabot and had a career-high 31 points with nine assists and seven steals in a 99-92 semifinal win over Hancock. He was named to the All-Tournament team along with teammate Jesse DeVries.
The Vaqueros (2-4) will play in the Wild West Shootout, opening on Thursday vs. tournament host West L.A. at 5:15 p.m.
