Yuba shoots past Vaqueros, 65-48

Yuba built a 37-20 halftime lead on Sunday on the way to a 65-48 victory over SBCC on the final day of the Hancock Home Motors men's basketball tournament.

The Vaqueros (1-3) lost the shooting battle, 48.0% to 30.4%. Santa Barbara had scored 89 and 83 points the previous two days.

Brandon Recek hit 6-of-14 from 3-point range and topped the 49ers (5-3) with 26 points.

Zeke McMurtry, a 6-5 guard from Baton Rouge, La., led the Vaqueros with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jaylen Jackson added 15 points in 22 minutes off the bench, hitting 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from 3-point range.

The Vaquero starters made just 11-of-39 shots (28.2%) and were 1-16 on 3-pointers.

Yuba went on an early 12-0 run to lead 14-4. McMurtry hit a triple to pull the Vaqueros within eight at 27-19 with 3:09 to go in the first half. Then Santa Barbara went cold for the next eight minutes, failing to make a field goal and getting outscored 13-1 as the 49ers stretched the lead to 20 points, 40-20.

The Vaqueros return to action on Thursday, Nov. 29 when they travel to the Monterey Bay Classic. They'll take on Solano at 7 p.m.
