Cuesta sinks Vaqueros with 3-point barrage, 86-61

Cuesta outscored SBCC 42-24 from the 3-point arc on Saturday in an 86-61 WSC North men's basketball victory in San Luis Obispo.

The Cougars (15-6, 2-1) dropped in 14-of-35 from downtown while the Vaqueros (3-17, 0-3) made 8-20. Cuesta ranks No. 3 in the state in 3-point makes (237) and 3-point attempts (642).

Cuesta built a 46-28 halftime edge and only had six turnovers in the 40-minute game.

Zeke McMurtry hit 3-5 from long range and recorded his fourth straight double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Vaqueros. It was his ninth double-double in 15 games. Joseph Holden nailed 4-8 from distance and tallied 16 points.

Jashon Lee added eight points, four rebounds and six assists.

Joshua Wilson-Murry led the Cougars with 21 points and nine rebounds. Jorge Bueno added 20 points. Wilson-Murry knocked down 4-9 from 3-point range and Bueno was 4-6.

The Vaqueros will hit the road again on Wednesday when they travel to Santa Maria to take on Hancock at 5 p.m.
