Chaffey feasts on turnovers to spoil Vaqueros’ opener, 83-56

Turnovers and poor free-throw shooting were a lethal combination for SBCC on Friday as Chaffey spoiled the Vaqueros' men's basketball season opener with an 83-56 victory at the L.A. Valley Monarch Classic.

SBCC turned the ball over 17 times in the first half to fall behind 46-31. The Vaqueros turned it over 21 times in the game and the Panthers (2-1) enjoyed a 31-3 advantage in points off turnovers.

Chaffey hit 47.7% from the field and 11-13 from the free-throw line. SBCC shot 41.5% and was only 1-8 from the charity stripe.

Four Panthers scored between 12 and 16 points, led by with 16 and Manu Oulai with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Daniel Arzate, a freshman guard from Dos Pueblos High, topped SBCC with 13 points.and four rebounds. He was 5-10 from the field and 3-7 from 3-point country. Jae'Von Queen added nine points and five rebounds in nine minutes off the bench.

The Vaqueros will take on Pasadena City on Saturday at 3 p.m.
