Bakersfield overwhelms Vaqueros, 106-52

Bakersfield outshot SBCC 59.2 to 37 percent and outboarded the Vaqueros 51-22 in a 106-52 victory on Friday in the Western State Classic at Bakersfield.

The Renegades hit 48.7% in the first half when they built a 48-24 lead.

Javier Gallardo, a 6-8, 275-pound forward, topped the Renegades with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Isayas Aris added 15 points and six boards as BC won its fifth straight to improve to 11-2.

SBCC had just nine players available and two were injured in the game. Adrian Juilland-Johnson, the Vaqueros' top scorer, suffered a foot injury in the first half and scored three points in nine minutes.

Nicholas Muerzl led the Vaqueros (1-12) with a season-high 22 points on 8-13 shooting, including 2-4 on 3's. Carlos Arevalo added nine points and Jacob Canada had six points and five assists.

The Vaqueros made just 6-25 (24.0%) from long range and 6-11 on free throws. They also committed 24 turnovers, leading to 36 points. Bakersfield was 16-22 on free throws and assisted on 29 of 42 baskets.

SBCC returns to action on Saturday when it will take on the Glendale Vaqueros in a 5 p.m. game at Bakersfield.
