Morris Hodges

The dean of SBCC coaches, Hodges enters his 30th season in 2019-20. He took over the Vaquero program in 1990-91 and was named WSC North Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1999.

Prior to coming to SBCC, he was an assistant at California and helped recruit Kevin Johnson to the Bears' program.  Johnson was an All-NBA guard for the Phoenix Suns and went on to become the Mayor of Sacramento.

Johnson has been a tremendous role model for youth all over the country with his sportsmanship and willingness to help those in need. Kevin agreed to have the "K.J. Award" named in his honor at SBCC and it is given annually to the Vaquero who has the courage, vision, commitment and integrity to follow through on all tasks with equal enthusiasm and to be totally unselfish and dedicated to the Vaquero program, both on and off the court.
