SBCC finished second in the 17-team Eagle Golf Classic on Friday. The 18-hole tourney, hosted by Mt. San Jacinto, featured all the top teams in Southern California.
Santiago Canyon won the tourney with an even-par 360 at Soboda Springs GC. The Vaqueros were second with a season-low 376, followed by WSC rival Ventura (385), Cypress (386), Canyons (387) and Orange Coast (388).
Tanner Dice of Santiago Canyon was the medalist at 4-under 68.
SBCC freshman Felix Mory fired a 1-under 71 to tie for sixth and Jackie Chan shot 73 for 10th place. Nick Rae and Blake McPherson (playing in his first match) carded 76s. Santa Barbara is 30-5-1 on the season.
"Overall, it was a pretty darn good outing against the best teams in Southern Cal," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "This was a challenging course and a good measuring stick for us. We have a long ways to go and I think we'll keep getting better and better."
SBCC travels to Bakersfield for WSC No. 3 on Monday at Rio Bravo CC.
