SBCC freshman Felix Mory tied his season best with a 1-under 69 in the opening round on Monday and went on to tie for third in the WSC Men's Golf Finals at Brookside GC in Pasadena.

The first round was played on a par-70 course measuring 6,025 yards and the afternoon round was played on a par-72 layout that was more than 6,700 yards.

Jonas Dahl was the medalist in the 36-hole event, firing a 5-under 65 in the first round and finishing at 3-under 139. Mory carded 69 and 74 to tie for third at 1-over 143 with Sidney Wolf (66-77) of Canyons.

Blake McPherson (70-77) shot 147 for Santa Barbara and Carson Curtis (74-74) turned in a 148.

Canyons had an amazing first round with five of their six players at par or better. The WSC champions shot 11-under 339 in the opening round and 13-over 373 in the second to finish at 712. The Vaqueros (358-387) were second at 745, followed by Glendale (748) and Ventura (749).

Canyons won WSC No. 9 and 10 to finish with a 66-4 record. SBCC was second in the first round and fourth in the second round, taking second for the year at 55-15. Ventura was third (52-18). Those three teams and Glendale (the low scorer outside of the top three in the WSC Finals) qualified for the 36-hole Southern Cal Championships on May 5 at StoneRidge CC in Poway.

"We played just average today and we'll have to do a lot better to advance out of the Southern Cal Championships," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez, whose team is 79-19-1 for the season.

The top two teams from the Southern Cal tourney move onto the State Championships at Victoria Club in Riverside.
