Freshman Manny Manzone shot a 1-under 71 to tie for second at WSC No. 5.

Manny Manzone shot his second straight under-par round but SBCC struggled on a very windy Monday in the high desert and finished third in WSC No. 5 men's golf action at Antelope Valley Country Club.

Manzone turned in a 1-under 71 to tie for second but Jake Ledbetter was the only teammate to shoot in the 70s with a 79. Jonny Hogan shot 80 for his first over-par round of the year, ending his amazing streak or par or better at eight straight rounds.

Canyons won the eight-team tourney at 367, easily outdistancing the host school Antelope Valley by 23 shots. SBCC was third at 395, followed by Ventura at 399 and Hancock at 400. Eric Kim of Canyons was the medalist at 69.

"There were gale-force winds today, probably 35 to 40 mph," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "We didn't show up to play and Canyons did. I think they were flustered by losing to us the last two times. They manhandled us today.

"Manny was a real positive with an eagle and his round of 71."

The Vaqueros will play in WSC No. 6 on Monday at Santa Maria Country Club, starting at 10 a.m.
