SBCC shot 412 on a windy Monday and finished third in WSC No. 1 at par-72 Valencia Country Club.

Niels Andersen, a freshman from San Marcos High, led Santa Barbara with a 78, Manny Manzone shot 80 and Lukas Wedsjoe carded an 83.

Canyons won the men's golf tournament with 384 strokes. Ventura was second at 403, followed by SBCC (412), Citrus (428) and Hancock (438).

Will Barnett of Canyons was the medalist at 2-under 70.

"The winds were tough and so were the pin placements," said coach Chuck Melendez. "The golf course got the better of us today. I don't know if we weren't ready or what. We were really leaking oil at the end.

"It's a little frustrating that we didn't compete better. I think our league is the best in the state and it's going to be competitive every week."
The Vaqueros will host WSC No. 2 on Monday at Alisal Ranch Course in Solvang with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
