Jake Ledbetter fired a 1-over 73 on a warm Monday and Andrew Sederlund shot 74, guiding SBCC to second place in WSC No. 2 at The Alisal Ranch Course in Solvang.

Five Vaqueros shot between 73 and 78 and they totaled a season-low 376 strokes in the eight-team men's golf tournament. Canyons was even better with a 363 (72.6 average). Cougar freshman Matt Cheng was the medalist at 6-under 66.

Ventura and Citrus tied at 380 and the Pirates won a scorecard playoff for third place. Canyons leads the WSC standings at 14-0, three games ahead of SBCC and Ventura at 11-3.

"My round was a little frustrating," said Ledbetter, a sophomore from Thousand Oaks High. "I was 2-under through 12, then I clipped a tree on my second shot and ended up with a triple-bogey."

Ledbetter had five birdies on a day when the temperature reached 88 degrees. Niels Andersen, a freshman from San Marcos and the current Santa Barbara City champion, shot a season-best 75.

"I had a rough start with a double bogey at No. 3 (in the shotgun start on different holes)," noted Andersen. "Then I made nine straight pars. I finally got a birdie on a lucky bounce at 18 (a 201-yard par 3)."

Lukas Wedsjoe carded a 76, Manny Manzone shot 78 and Tyler Murata had an 80 in his season debut.

"There were some good things happening out there but I always have high expectations for our guys," said coach Chuck Melendez. "I was a little surprised to see Manny shoot 78 because I know he expects to win every tournament. It was good to get Tyler in there and get him some experience. We're improving, slowly but surely."

The Vaqueros will play in the Eagle Golf Classic, hosted by Mt. San Jacinto, at Soboda Springs CC on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
