Jake Ledbetter shot 4-over 75 and Manny Manzone and Niels Andersen added 76s on Monday as SBCC captured its first WSC men's golf tourney in WSC No. 3 at Stockdale CC in Bakersfield.

Tyler Murata had a 78 for the Vaqueros, who totaled 385 to beat Ventura by a stroke. Canyons was third at 389 and Citrus took fourth at 390. Just five strokes separated the top four teams.

SBCC has placed third, second and first in the three WSC tourneys. It was the second win in five tournaments for this season.

"It didn't feel like we were playing that super out there but the pin placements were tough which led to a lot of three-putts for a lot of players," said coach Chuck Melendez. "It's nice to get a win after not playing great in our last tournament. There aren't too many teams who've beaten Canyons in the last few years.

"This is a confidence-booster and I know we can do even better."

Canyons leads the WSC standings at 19-2, followed closely by SBCC (18-3) and Ventura (17-4).

The Vaqueros will play in WSC No. 4 on Monday at River Ridge GC in Oxnard.
