OXNARD – SBCC's Manny Manzone rode a hot start to a 4-under 68 on Monday to earn medalist honors in the fourth WSC men's golf tournament on the Victoria Lakes Course at River Ridge GC.

Manzone, a sophomore from Moraga, Calif., shared the medalist award with Travis Fay of Canyons. Will Barnett of Canyons was third at 69.

"I got off to a good start by parring the hardest par-3 on the course (the 227-yard 17th), then went birdie-birdie-birdie on 18, 1 and 2," said Manzone, who notched five birdies in his Vaquero career-low round of 68. "I coasted in from there with a three-putt bogey and two more birdies."

Canyons won the title in the eight-team competition with a 4-over 364. The Vaqueros were second at 376, followed by Ventura (379) and Citrus (387). The Cougars are first in the WSC standings at 26-2 with SBCC (24-4) and Ventura (22-6) close behind.

"Canyons is really good and they've always had a good program," Manzone stated. "A ll six of our scores need to be good to beat them. We can't just have one or two."

Jake Ledbetter and Tyler Murata both shot 76 for Santa Barbara, which improved to 39-13 overall.

The Vaqueros will host the Pt. Conception Open on Sunday and Monday at La Purisima GC in Lompoc. A shotgun tee-off will commence on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and Monday at 8:30 a.m.
