Jake Ledbetter shot a 2-over 74 to take medalist honors on Monday and Niels Andersen was second at 75, leading SBCC to second place in the eighth WSC men's golf tournament at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.
Michael Nam carded a 76 and Manny Manzone 77, giving the Vaqueros four players between 74 and 77.
Canyons won its fifth straight WSC tourney with 386 strokes, five better than the Vaqueros (391). Ventura was third at 398. The Cougars are 54-2 in conference play and hold a 10-game advantage over Ventura (44-12) with three tourneys remaining. SBCC is close behind in third at 43-13.
"We played the tips on a difficult course," said coach Chuck Melendez. "It's one of the toughest that we'll play all year. Michael Nam was solid with six birdies but he also had a couple of double bogeys.
"We had four excellent scores, although we lost some strokes at the end. We need to learn how to finish strong."
The Vaqueros will travel to Temecula to play in WSC No. 9 on Monday at Bear Creek GC. The Southern Cal Regional will also be played at Bear Creek on May 2.
