Manny Manzone fired an even-par 72 to grab second place on Monday and SBCC finished second in the ninth WSC men's tournament at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta.

Jake Ledbetter shot 74 and Niels Andersen carded a 78 for the Vaqueros, who totaled 389 strokes and finished 13 behind the winner, College of the Canyons (376). Ventura was third at 397.

It was the sixth straight win for the Cougars, who lead the WSC standings at 61-2. SBCC moved into a second-place tie with Ventura at 49-14. Jae Kim of Canyons was the medalist at 2-under 70.

"This is a real nice course, very well-manicured," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "It got a little windy at times. Three of our guys (Manzone, Ledbetter, Andersen) played in the Lompoc City Championship over the weekend and I think that helped us."

Manzone tied for sixth and Ledbetter was eighth in the Lompoc City, which was won by ex-Vaquero Jonny Hogan (70-77) on the first playoff hole at La Purisima GC.

"I was happy with how we played," Melendez added. "We're starting to pull out of our funk. Manny is motivated to win the WSC individual title and Jake and Niels have been playing better lately."

Manzone, a five-time medalist this year, is averaging 74.8 in WSC play.

The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC Championships on Monday at Rio Bravo in Bakersfield. The 36-hole event will also feature WSC No. 10 and 11 and determine the three teams that advance to the Southern Cal Regional, which will be held on May 2 at Bear Creek GC.
