Vaqueros take ninth in two-man, best ball tourney

SBCC placed ninth in the Victor Valley Invitational men's golf tournament on Monday at Spring Valley Lake CC in Victorville. The format was a little different with two-man teams playing best ball on each hole. The team scores were the combined total of each school's three two-man teams.

Cypress won the 15-school competition with three scores of 63 for a 27-under 189. Canyons was second at 194, followed by Riverside (198), Orange Coast (199) and Mt. San Antonio (205). The Vaqueros were ninth with 212 strokes.

Trent Caraher/Theo Andre-Fouet led the Vaqueros with a 3-under 69. Jack Heavey/JB Jandro shot 71 and Niels Andersen/Brant Schenk 72.

"It wasn't one of our better days," noted SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "We didn't make a whole lot of birdies and that's what you need to do in this format. The good thing is we got a look at this golf course where we'll play a WSC tournament later this year."

The Vaqueros will compete in the Eagle Classic, hosted by Mt. San Jacinto at Soboda Springs CC, on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
