Michael Nam shot a season-best 79 on Monday, leading SBCC to fourth place in the seventh WSC men's golf tournament at Oakmont CC in Glendale.

It was just the second tournament of the year for Nam, who hadn't played since the season-opening Point Conception Open on Jan. 29-30.

The scores were high on Monday as Nam, a sophomore from Dos Pueblos High, was the only Vaquero to break 80. He placed 10th in the 48-player field. Niels Andersen shot 81, Sean Mitton 83 and Trent Caraher 85.

Jae Kim and Ricky Hoefert of Canyons were the co-medalists at 2-over 74.

Canyons won the tourney with 381 strokes. Glendale was 18 strokes back at 399, followed by Ventura (403) and SBCC (419). Canyons tops the WSC standings at 45-4, four games ahead of Ventura (41-8) and 10 better than the Vaqueros (35-14).

"We played from the back tees and that's always tough on this course," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "Typical of our season, we tend to have some blowup holes and we had some big ones today. It seemed like every time we'd get an eagle or a birdie, it would be followed by a bogey or double bogey."

The Vaqueros travel to Victorville for WSC No. 8 on Monday at Spring Valley Lake GC, starting at 10 a.m.
