Gabe Cloquet and Jack Heavey fired 76s on Monday as SBCC claimed second in WSC men's golf tournament No. 2 at Rio Bravo CC in Bakersfield.
Cloquet and Heavey tied for fifth in the 53-man field. Elliot Bourke of Hancock was the medalist at 1-under 71.
Felix Dine carded a 78 (12th place) for the Vaqueros and Zach Steinberger tied for 13th at 79.
Canyons won the team title at 382. SBCC and Ventura were 10 strokes back at 392. The Vaqueros took second thanks to a lower sixth-man score (83 to 84). SBCC, Canyons and Ventura are tied for first in the WSC race with 14-2 records.
"We played pretty well, considering this was the first time we'd seen this course," said Vaquero coach Chuck Melendez.
The Vaqueros will play again on Wednesday in the Mt. San Jacinto Eagle Classic at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont.
