Jack Heavey fired a 3-over 75 to tie for fifth in the 16-team Mt. San Jacinto Eagle Classic men's golf tournament on Wednesday at Tukwet Canyon Golf Club in Beaumont.
Orange Coast won the tourney at 377, beating three teams by five shots. Cypress, Mt. SAC and Palomar tied for second at 382. Saddleback was fifth at 384 and Riverside took sixth at 386. The Vaqueros were 10th at 397.
Michael Herrera of Riverside was the medalist at even-par 72, edging Dylan Stone of Mt. SAC and Myoung Kim of Orange Coast by a stroke.
Heavey, the only sophomore on the eight-man team, shot a career-best 75. Teammates Zach Steinberger and Ray Abels both shot 77 and tied for 16th in the 94-player field.
"We didn't play well today," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "Felix Dine had an elbow injury and that hurt us. I was very happy with Jack Heavey, Zach Steinberger and Ray Abels, who hasn't played much this year and shot a great round of 77."
The Vaqueros will host WSC No. 3 on Monday at The Alisal Ranch Course in Solvang with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m.
