Steinberger, Duffy guide Vaqueros to second in WSC No. 8

Zach Steinberger and Austin Duffy carded 75 on Monday as SBCC took second in WSC men's golf No. 8 at Spring Valley Lake Country Club in Victorville.

Steinberger, a freshman from Dos Pueblos High, has finished second, first and eighth in three of his last four WSC events. He and Duffy, a freshman from Denver, Colo., tied for eighth on Monday. Duffy's 75 was one off his season best.

Canyons captured its sixth WSC win with an 8-over 368. The Vaqueros were second at 384, followed by Glendale (391) and Ventura (397).

Justin Buenaventura and Jones Comerford – both from Canyons – tied for medalist honors at even-par 72. SBCC's Mikha Benedictus tied his season best of 76 and tied for 11th in the 54-man field. Gabe Cloquet and Felix Dine added 79s, giving the Vaqueros five scorers between 75 and 79.

Canyons is first in the WSC standings at 61-3. The Vaqueros are tied for second with Ventura, 11 games back at 50-14.

The Vaqueros will play in WSC No. 9 on Monday at Santa Maria CC, starting at 11 a.m.
