Vaqueros finish second for third straight week

SBCC had five players between 76 and 79 on Monday but Canyons used a 1-2-3 individual finish to hold off the Vaqueros by 11 strokes and claim its second straight WSC tournament title.

Nobuhiko Wakaari of Canyons was the medalist, shooting a 3-under 69 on the Cougars' home course of Valencia CC in WSC No. 4. Teammate Jules Lavigne was second at 72.

The Cougars totaled 381 strokes and SBCC was second with 392. Ventura took third at 405 and Glendale was fourth with 418.

Theo Andre-Fouet led the Vaqueros with a 76 that tied him for third. Brant Schenk, Zach Steinberger, Gabe Cloquet and Preston Gomersall all tied for eighth at 79.

COC moved into a first-place tie with the Vaqueros in the WSC race. They're both 29-3 and Ventura is three games back at 26-6.

The Vaqueros will play in the Mt. San Jacinto Eagle Classic on Friday at Soboba Springs CC.
