The sixth WSC men's golf tournament had a familiar look on Monday as Canyons and SBCC finished 1-2 for the fourth straight time at Antelope Valley Country Club.

The Cougars shot a season-low 367 (73.4 average) to beat the Vaqueros (380) by 13 strokes in the nine-team tourney. Glendale was third (382), Ventura was fourth (389) and Bakersfield took fifth (392).

Nobuhiko Wakaari of Canyons shot 3-under 69 to claim his fourth WSC medalist honor in the last five tourneys. Teammate Matt Mansholt, the No. 6 player, was second at 72.

SBCC had all five players between 75 and 79. Trent Caraher, Brant Schenk and Gabe Cloquet led the way with 75s that tied them for 10th place. Caraher's 75 was a career low while Schenk tied his season-best score. Theo Andre-Fouet added a 77, Felix Dine shot 78 and JB Jandro turned in a 79.

"It was a pretty good day and the conditions were excellent," said Vaquero coach Chuck Melendez. "It's good to see everyone in the 70s. Our problem is we're not getting enough in the low 70s."

At the midway point, Canyons leads the WSC standings at 45-3. The Vaqueros are two games back (43-5) and Ventura is eight back (37-11).

The Vaqueros hope to break Canyons' spell in WSC No. 7 on Monday, hosted by Victor Valley at Spring Valley Lake GC in Victorville at 10 a.m.
