Caraher fires 3-under 69; Vaqueros are second in WSC No. 7

Trent Caraher shot a career-low 3-under 69 on Monday, leading SBCC to second place in WSC men's golf tournament No. 7 at Spring Valley Lake CC in Victorville.

Caraher, a sophomore from Chicago, shaved six strokes off his previous best of 75 which he shot last Monday. The Vaqueros had three players in the top eight with Caraher tying for second, Brant Schenk taking fifth at 72 and Zach Steinberger tying for sixth at 73.

Schenk's 72 is a career best for the sophomore from Santa Cruz. Steinberger also recorded a season low.

Matt Mansholt, the No. 5 player for Canyons, was the medalist at 4-under 68.

Canyons turned in a season-low for the second straight week to win its fifth straight WSC tourney. The Cougars totaled 361 (72.2 average) to beat the Vaqueros (370) by nine shots. Ventura was third at 382 and Glendale took fourth at 389, edging Bakersfield by a stroke.

Canyons, SBCC, Ventura and Bakersfield all shot season lows. SBCC won the first WSC tourney at Bakersfield CC and has finished second in the last six events.

The Cougars lead the nine-team WSC race at 53-3. The Vaqueros are three games back (50-6) and Ventura is third at 43-13.

Santa Barbara (81-12 overall) will compete in the Rig City Invitational on Monday at Bakersfield CC.
