Preston Gomersall, Theo Andre-Fouet and JB Jandro placed third, fourth and sixth, respectively, on Monday to lead SBCC to second in the 36-hole WSC Finals at Soule Park in Ojai.

Gomersall, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, shot a 1-under 71 and even-par 72 for a 143 that was three strokes behind the leader. Anguerrand Voisin of Canyons was the medalist at 140 (70-70) and teammate Nobuhiko Wakaari was second at 142 (73-69).

Canyons won the tourney with a sizzling 6-under total of 714. The Vaqueros were second at 730 and Bakersfield was a distant third at 771.

Santa Barbara shot a season-best 364 in WSC No. 10 and a 366 in No. 11.

Gomersall turned in his second- and third-best scores of the year. Andre-Fouet, a sophomore from France, tied for fourth at 144 (72-72), Jandro was sixth at 145 (71-74) and Brant Schenk tied for 10th at 148 (75-73).

The six Vaqueros all shot between 71 and 75 in 12 rounds of golf. Trent Caraher and Felix Dine tied for 12th at 150. Andre-Fouet, Schenk and Caraher all made the All-WSC team based on their season averages.

Canyons captured the conference title with an 83-5 record. The Vaqueros were second at 80-8 and Ventura (63-25) was third. Those three automatically qualified for the Southern Cal Regional. Bakersfield earned the fourth spot by finishing third in the WSC Finals.

The Vaqueros set a new school record for WSC wins (80) and win percentage (.909). They've also broken their overall win record with a glossy 134-17 ledger (.887).

The Cougars beat the Vaqueros by five shots (359-364) to win WSC No. 10 and they were 11 shots better (355-366) in WSC No. 11.

Jack Green of Canyons was the medalist in WSC No. 10 with a 6-under 66. Gomersall and Jandro tied for third at 71. Canyons took the first four spots in WSC No. 11, led by Wakaari (69), Voisin (70) and Matt Mansho (70). Gomersall and Andre-Fouet tied for fifth with 72s.

The Vaqueros will play in the Southern Cal Regional next Monday at Los Serranos CC in Chino Hills. The 36-hole tourney starts at 7 a.m.
