Blake Bornand turned in a season-best 74 on Monday and SBCC tied for eighth in the Riverside Invitational at the Victoria Club.

Bornand, a freshman from San Marcos High, shaved three strokes off his season low and tied for 14th in the 96-player field. He was even par through 16 holes, then bogeyed his last two holes. Igor Haenel and Isaac Stone of SBCC shot 75 and tied for 20th.

Haenel has shot 73, 72, 71 and 75 in his last four rounds.

Canyons had two teams in the 16-team tournament and they took first and seventh. Canyons A shot 363, six strokes better than Reedley. Mt. SAC, Cypress and Irvine Valley tied for third at 376.

The Vaqueros tied for eighth with a 384.

"I was a little disappointed that we took a step back from our previous two tournaments (when they shot season-bests 373 and 371)," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "We didn't have a great competitive day. It was a strange course with a lot of blind shots."

SBCC returns to conference play on Monday in WSC No. 4 at Bakersfield Country Club.
