Blake Bornand, Matt Pate and Isaac Stone shot 74, 75 and 76, respectively, on Monday to lead SBCC to third in WSC No. 5 at Santa Maria Country Club.

Canyons won the eight-team tourney with a 3-under 357. That was the Cougars' season low in relation to par. Ventura was second at 369, the Vaqueros were third at 382 and Antelope Valley took fourth with a 387.

Bornand tied for seventh in the 47-player field, Pate tied for 12th and Stone tied for 15th. Stone, the 2019 Channel League champion from Santa Barbara High, has shot 72, 75, 71 and 76 in his last four rounds.

Hugo Ansallem of Canyons was the medalist at 4-under 68. Teammate Chayan Duha took second at 69 and Ventura's Steen Zeman shot 70 for third.

Canyons tops the WSC standings at the midpoint of the conference season with a perfect 35-0 record. Ventura is second at 28-7 and the Vaqueros are a game back in third (27-8).

"This course was very do-able today and some of my guys came in frustrated because they felt they should have done better on such an easy course," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "Preston Gomersall was 4-under on the par 5's and he shot 79. We just didn't get it done today."

The Vaqueros will play in the Clash at the Coast on Wednesday at the nation's top municipal course, Torrey Pines in La Jolla. It will be a two-man, best-ball tourney at the course that hosted the PGA Farmer's Insurance Open on Jan. 23-26 and will host the 2021 U.S. Open.
