Taft beats Vaqueros for second time, 3-1

Taft toppled SBCC 3-1 in a men's soccer game on a hot Tuesday at Taft College, beating the visitors for the second time in 12 days. The Cougars are 5-0 while the Vaqueros fell to 0-4.

Mehdi Badache brought down a Taft player in the box in the 13th minute and the Cougars made the penalty kick for a 1-0 lead. They scored again in the 40th minute before SBCC cut it to 2-1 on a header by Kieron Coleman in the 45th minute.

"We changed our shape and it worked quite well," said coach John Sisterson. "Every time we got behind them, we looked dangerous. But we're still making too many individual mistakes that we shouldn't be making."

Richard Caine got a red card in the 62nd minute on a late tackle, leaving the Vaqueros with 10 players.

The Cougars scored an insurance goal on a breakaway in the 82nd minute. SBCC has allowed three or more goals in each game and has been outscored 16-2.

Haydn Dickinson was red-carded in the 88th minute and he and Caine (both defenders) will miss the next game.

Santa Barbara will host Pasadena on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. before opening WSC play on Friday at Hancock.
