Alexander Virgili made quite a splash in his first start of the season on Friday with a hat trick in SBCC's 5-2 men's soccer victory at Moorpark.
It was the season finale for both schools. The Vaqueros (8-9-4, 7-5-4) finished fourth in the WSC while Moorpark (0 -13-6, 0-12-4) was last.
Virgili, a 6-2 sophomore from Rome, Italy, missed most of the season with a broken arm. He scored in the 3rd, 6th and 55th minutes on assists from Barnaby Hitchcock, Mehdi Badache and Aaron Aaberg.
The Vaqueros led 2-1 at intermission. Virgili scored 10 minutes into the second half but the Raiders cut it to 3-2 five minutes later.
Kebba Nyang converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute for a 4-2 lead. Gonzalo Jimenez got the Vaqueros' final goal in the 77th minute on an assist by Jonathan Mora.
SBCC outshot the Raiders 22-12, including 13-9 in shots on goal.
"Alexander played great and it was nice to finish on a positive note," said coach John Sisterson. "We got the ball down and took advantage of our chances."
