Chavez is co-Player of the Year; 12 Vaqueros make All-WSC

Victor Chavez was selected as co-Player of the Year for the Western State Conference North Division men's soccer team and 12 SBCC players made the all-conference team.

Chavez, a sophomore forward from Garden Street Academy, was voted to the All-West Region team and second-team All-American. SBCC's John Sisterson was chosen as WSC North co-Coach of the Year.

Chavez was fifth in the state with 16 goals and 38 points for the WSC North champion Vaqueros. He led the WSC with 10 goals in 10 conference games.

SBCC went went unbeaten in its first 21 games (17-0-4) and won the WSC North with a 9-0-1 record. The Vaqueros fell to Mt. San Antonio 1-0 in the So Cal Regional Finals and finished fifth in the state with a 17-1-4 record.

SBCC had five first-team All-WSC selections – sophomore midfielder Jessie Jimenez, sophomore goalie Shane Pitcock (1.01 goals-against average), sophomore defender Abiodun Akintioye, freshman midfielder Adrian Gamez (Santa Barbara High) and freshman defender Mitchell Walker.

Second-team choices included sophomore forward Matthew Wilkinson (7 goals, 5 assists), sophomore midfielder Carlos Espinoza (6 goals, 7 assists) and freshmen defenders Zachary Sneddon and Sonny Boyoko.

Defender Hudson Handel and forward Celso Lagunas (Santa Barbara High) were honorable mention.
